A Lovely Night

Saturday, November 20th, 2010

Today’s gift: watching J make new friends (4th graders! and even 8th graders!) as a result of her role in the play.

She loves the social part of the show and it’s fabulous to watch the children bond and support one another.

My favorite moment: backstage tonight when all the kids spontaneously sang songs from the show.

Fun, creative, positive energy is contagious and by the final curtain, I’m singing along too!

Today’s gift: the love our nanny and her Mom have for J and M.

‘Tis The Season

Today’s gift:  helping the homeless. Our school organized a donation drive with a local shelter and today we presented our gifts.

Giving feels so good doesn’t it?

Lady Day

Tuesday, November 16th, 2010

Today’s gift:  an incredible, intense, and productive meeting with “Lady” from school.  We discussed M and made progress and a plan for some crucial issues.

The meeting was as much about me as it was about M.

My emotions were running high before we met and after the meeting my feelings felt more intense.  I was happy to experience these deep emotions — they were invigorating and challenging and raw.  I need to give them space in my life.

The support from school means everything to me and to M and to our family.  Today is another example of the Team M’s dedication and talent.

911-PET

Monday, November 15th, 2010

Today’s gift:  I am thankful for the quick thinking and expertise of both our vet and the local animal hospital — they saved our puppy Rocky (by removing a massive amount of pet bed stuffing from his belly).

I never could have guessed that something small, furry, and silly could steal my heart so completely.

Never say never…

Prince Charming

Sunday, November 14th, 2010

Remember my post about M having a small part in the play?  Well, he decided it was too much for him and we supported his decision.  We are very proud of him because he attended many rehearsals, learned all the songs and put his best foot forward.

Today’s gift:  the director surprised us by including M in the program notes!  She thanked him for his help and assistance.  This official nod meant more to M than I think she’ll ever know…at the end of today’s show (yes we went twice) he insisted we take photos of him and Cinderella.

M beamed next to the blushing bride as only Prince Charming can.

Impossible Things Are Happening Every Day

Saturday, November 13th, 2010

Tonight:  the first performance of Cinderella.

There was magic in the air.   Anything and everything felt possible.  And it was.

(Godmother)
Impossible, for a plain yellow pumpkin to become a golden carriage.
Impossible, for a plain country bumpkin and a prince to join in
Marriage,
And four white mice will never be four white hosrses!
Such fol-der-ol and fid-dle-dy dee of course, is— Impossible!
But the world is full of zanies and fools
Who don’t believe in sensible rules
And won’t believe what sensible people say.
And because these daft and dewey-eyed dopes keep building up impossible
Hopes,
Impossible things are happening every day.

(Cinderella)
Impossible!

(Godmother)
Impossible!

Go To The Head of The Class

Friday, November 12th, 2010

Today’s gift:  the news that M is doing well academically in all of his subjects.  We’ve always known that M is smart and has a lot of cognitive strengths.  Today it feels so wonderful to learn that M is able to demonstrate his knowledge in school this year.

M is working so hard at school each day — on his writing and fine motor skills, on his math challenges and with the demands of surviving each school day.

When the world sees what I see in M, I can’t describe my joy except to say that it is a great big gift and I’m so thankful.

Tough Love

Thursday, November 11th, 2010

Today’s gift:  sticking to the rules I explained to M.  I didn’t budge. It was hard and I hated seeing him upset but I did it and at the end of the day, he was a bit better because of it.
