Pre-Resolution Primer
Friday, December 30th, 2011Today’s gift: Gina Barreca’s hilarious advice on making (and keeping) New Year’s Resolutions.
“Look, we all know that what keeps us from getting
what we want in life is the story
we tell ourselves about why we can’t have it.
So let’s make 2012 a year of new stories.” –Gina Barreca

Silent Night: Reprise
Tuesday, December 20th, 2011Today’s gift: reflecting on how far we’ve come with M, how far we still have to go, and how (thankfully) some things need to stay the same…
M’s full-blown love (obsession?) with Christmas Carols is even stronger this year. His joy is bigger and his enjoyment deeper. Thankfully, the constantly playing-on-a-loop Ghost-buster’s CD has been replaced by his Holiday Mix CD and like a kid on Christmas, I can’t wait for him to play it each morning at breakfast and as soon as he returns from school.
Thankfully, Silent Night is still his favorite (read last year’s Silent Night post here). M’s soft voice barely rises above the CD but if I listen closely I can make out every single word, sung by M with perfect harmony and pure innocence…my gift, my tender and mild boy.
Silent night, holy night!
All is calm, all is bright.
Round yon Virgin, Mother and Child.
Holy infant so tender and mild,
Sleep in heavenly peace,
Sleep in heavenly peace.
Silent night, holy night!
Shepherds quake at the sight.
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia,
Christ the Savior is born!
Christ the Savior is born.
Silent night, holy night!
Son of God love’s pure light.
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus Lord, at Thy birth.
Jesus Lord, at Thy birth

BFFs
Sunday, December 4th, 2011Today’s gift: M wants friends. He’s working so hard to figure out what it means to be a friend, how to make friends, how NOT to lose friends.
He had a few spontaneous friend encounters this weekend and used the phrase Best Friends Forever…
Here’s to friendship in all shapes, sizes, colors and ages.
Good luck M!
